Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete. Minos had Daedalus to build a Labyrinth to house the bull-man, the Minotaur. The beast was the one that his wife Pasiphae gave birth to after having intercourse with a bull. Shamed by his wife’s infidelity, and the beastly offspring, Minos had Daedalus construct the labyrinth, a maze with many winding passages, but only one true path to keep the Minotaur imprisoned and distanced away from his house. Then, the king promised to sacrifice the bull to Poseidon, but he broke that promise, so the god took revenge. He coerced his wife to desire the bull. Minos required having a group of young men and women from Athens to be sacrificed to the Minotaur. Theseus volunteered to take part at one of these groups of victims. When he reached Crete, he met Minos’ daughter Ariadne. She fell in love at first sight with Theseus and gave him a sword and a ball of a thread which he would let unwind through the Labyrinth. Then after killing the Minotaur and would find his way back out. Theseus and Ariadne made out, but soon she was kidnapped to the island of Dias where she died, because the goddess Artemis put her to death.
